“The middle part of the day in Queensland is too hot so we need an extra hour in the afternoon. It will greatly benefit our business.”
Stephen Bradbury does not want Queensland to be last to oppose daylight saving time. His name is:Cameron Whitfield
He also supported Stephen Bradbury, the Winter Olympic gold medalist. Bradbury didn’t want Queensland being the last state to finish in standard time this summer.
“I remember the trial that happened when I was a kid,” he said. “When you get home from school, you look forward to daylight saving and the extra time you have to go out on your bikes and play with your friends.
Schreiner led the charge for change for the second year in a row. He marked the 30th anniversary the failed DST referendum in February to argue the case for a second trial.
The state’s electoral rolls contained 1,835,727 registered voters as of the day of the 1992 referendum. In which 54.5 percent of Queenslanders voted for daylight saving time, That number has increased 84 percent to 3,377.476 at the 2020 state election.
Schreiner claimed that the referendum conducted 30 years ago would not have any weight today.
He said, “It’s unfair that a large portion of Queenslanders did not have a say in this.”
“Queensland’s landscape has seen incredible change over the past 30 year.”
Schreiner said the legislation already exists—the DST Act of 1990, which was repealed in a referendum three years later.
He said, “It’s five-pages.” It’s a very simple document that can be submitted for Parliament. You can simply change the dates.
Schreiner was disappointed that he did not get support from George Street National Liberals.
David Cresafuli of Queensland, the opposition leader, stated that while he was respectful of Schreiner’s views he could not see daylight saving being implemented in any government that he leads.
“I am sure he understands that my views are different because I have lived in both countries,” he stated.
“I will not do anything that would cause this place to be divided.”
The most significant stumblingblock is the geographic divide, which is widely believed to be the largest. It is opposed by the state’s northwestern side.
There are calls for Queensland’s southeast corner to be left alone, as has been done in other double-time states like New South Wales.

Broken Hill is in Western New South Wales, in Central Time. It aligns with Adelaide and Darwin rather than Sydney, the state capital.
Schreiner stated, “Ultimately, I believe prosecuting the entire state is the best way to go. Then letting people voice their opinions.”
“If they suggest there is more than one timezone in Queensland, that is something we can take into consideration.”
The state government was asked to comment.
