YouTube paid subscriptions include ad-free video viewing, background playback and song and video downloading for offline consumption. The premium level may offer 4K video streams that are currently available for free to all users.

It is unclear if this was limited testing or if the company was looking at limiting free users to a resolution limit of 1440p. TechCrunch reached out to Google for comment.
The company tried many different ways to convert users who were free into paying users. One of the most popular was to display up to 11 nonskippable ads before they started a long video. This allows them to have an uninterrupted experience.
Google claimed it reached 50 million subscribers last year via YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. Although prices for these subscriptions vary depending on where you live, they cost $9.99 for YouTube Music and $11.99 for YouTube Premium.
According to the search giant, YouTube reported second-quarter earnings of 2022. It said that YouTube had generated $6.87 Billion in revenue, which is significantly lower than analysts’ estimates of $7.51 Billion. It is therefore not surprising that YouTube will explore new ways to increase paid subscribers of its video streaming services.
YouTube TV announced a new program last Wednesday that allows users to subscribe to additional channels, such as Showtime and HBO Max, NBA League Pass, MLB.TV, and more, without needing to buy a $64.99 monthly basic plan.
